Florida Garden

So it's January. And it's planting season. Well, really it's always planting season here in Florida.

Jordan got to work putting in a square foot garden design. I really should have taken a picture of what this area looked like before Jordan gave it an horticultural makeover. There was an existing rosemary bush (which I love cooking and baking with!) but that was it.

He set up the boards, pulled all the weeds and prepared for some healthy, vibrant soil to be put in

Lily and Robert were more than happy to help Jordan spread out the dirt, although it was a super warm day for January - mid 80's and blue, sunny skies

Lily's cheeks were red with heat but she plugged on

This picture shows the results at the end of day #2 of working on the garden.

The next phase was to pick out the plants we wanted and that would grow in the sun and heat. We picked out a myriad of herbs and vegetables so we will see what flourishes in the coming months.

It was raining as Jordan laid out the floor plan for the plants

Once the kids woke up from their naps, they got their coats on and helped Daddy plant everything

After some time, but before the job was over, Lily came inside to snuggle with me while Rob stayed outside with Jordan. Robert talked almost the entire time to Jordan. Not jabber, actual sentences. He was mostly excited about holding a box cutter (used to get the plants out of their containers). I could hear him talking away to Jordan as the rain lightly fell. It was precious.

And here is the end result of day #3 of working on the garden

We've got basil, oregano, mint, green onions, rosemary, tomatoes (of all kinds), peppers, lettuce and decorative plants. Stay tuned to see what actually grows and produces :)
