*Late Post*
In April we decided to get back to nature and walk the 4 mile Eco Trail here in Cape Coral. We wanted to walk it before the humidity of the rainy season hit. I was really missing the plush green of an Ohio summer and all the pretty, unique landscape of the Midwest. So, off to the trail we headed on a Saturday morning.
Lily seemed excited to see all there was to see.
We checked out the little building that talked about the reserve which is full of mangroves.
Rob rode in the backpack... this may have been his final ride in the backpack. He is getting so big!
I pushed Lily and Marius in our double stroller (that I am still in love with)
We walked on a boardwalk the whole trail since the ground is so wet and muddy...which is perfect for mangroves
Branches of one of the mangroves
The beginning stages of a mangrove
This is some form of a disease that can effect the plants, part of the reserve had these 'knots' on them
About to walk down the pier. When the season is right, you can usually see manatees
The Caloosahatchee River
Me and my babies
The very edge of the mangrove forest with Daddy and Robert
The roots on these plants are really spectacular
A forest! Which isn't typical for Florida
Lily pointing to all these teeny, tiny crabs that burrow in the ground. There are tons of them!
While Florida's landscape is very different from Ohio's... it really is spectacular. It's always green here, year round. The palms have a beauty of all their own. Since there are no hills... you can see amazing sunsets with a flat lined horizon. The heartiness of the vegetation down here is unmatched by any other plants from up north. The sand on the beaches and the salt water in the ocean are both special in their own unique way.
