Merry Christmas!
One of my all time favorite Christmas memories from my childhood is when our church did A Night in Bethlehem.
This year, our church put on the same event. It was so wonderful. Its the chance to put myself back in that time, to feel what Mary must have felt delivering the Christ child with animals nearby..
Or what Joseph must have felt when he was to marry Mary, but she was already with child?! And a virgin? And it's the daddy is Heavenly Father? Phew.. what a man Joseph must have been.
What it must have felt like to be a shepherd, just tending the flocks and putting in another day in the fields when... a bright, almost blinding light, comes to you. This light is a person, an angel? Yes, an angel come to tell you good news that the Savior has been born. I wonder if they were scared or if they were calm and felt instant peace when this Heavenly messenger spoke of the Savior being born.
Or how the wise men must have had enormous faith to travel, for who knows how long, to another land, far away. To do what? Visit a baby, who was most likely a toddler at this time? The faith and commitment that these men must have had is inspiring!
It was a spiritual event to live into Bethlehem for a night, as a little family.
We called Lily our Little Shepherd Girl all night as we munched on or hummus, pita chips, cheese, fruit, chicken sandwiches and all kinds of delicious sweets.
We sang songs and then admired a live nativity, in which Lily exclaimed "I got to see Baby Jesus!"
