Last weekend, we took a quick trip to Sheffield Lake to visit Jordan's parents and his sister's family.
We had a great ride up, even if the kids missed their naps. When we got to Granny and Papa's, the kids went straight for the piano. Lily calls it "Granny's BIG piano"
Papa can play the piano (and organ) and tickled the ivory with Lily. She loved it.
Robert enjoyed exploring and discovering the house. He loved going up the stairs. More than once, I had to say "Where is Robert?!" then we'd hurry around looking for him. He would be in the dining room quietly playing, upstairs in Granny's room or just about to go into the basement. It was continual!
Granny had a little jar of Hershey's kisses and M&M's. Lily and Rob loved it, of course :)
We had dinner and then Granny brought up a lego table for the kids to play with.
It was well past bed time, but the kids did wonderfully and the kids were having a great time.
The next morning, Marissa and Hank invited us over to have breakfast with them. Lily and Henry share a love of Thomas the Tank Engine, so we packed up a train set and headed over. We had a wonderful breakfast and then played for hours.
Rob even got into the train building.
But little Oskar stole the show. His bright blue eyes, his gorgeous, flowing hair and his soft, delicious baby skin. He was perfect. Jordan and I both got to feed him. When I was feeding him, he would just look up at me with the sweetest, most content look in his eyes that made me feel guilty if I looked away.
So snuggly!
Lily was in love with Oskar too, she loved helping to feed him. Look at that glare she is giving me - it's almost as if she is saying "C'mon Mom.. I know how to do this"
I think us adults might have played with the trains just as much as the children did :)
Henry and Lily really got to have some cousin bonding time. The played, ran around, danced, giggled and kindled it up. It was so cute. There was no fighting or unkindness between the two. It was delightfully surprising.
This is the home that Jordan grew up in - 809 Warwick Drive
When Jordan's grandfather died in 2008, his parents moved into their house, which isn't more than a block down the street. 809 was sold to another family, and now it is for sale again. Susan had a connection to get the keys and let us take one last walk through this home, to show our children where Daddy was raised.
It was a bittersweet trip, a rare event and cherished. Jordan planted that evergreen tree in the backyard so many years ago, as a child. And now he got to take a picture holding two children in his arms, right next to it.
It was a great trip. Lily missed all of her extended family. Little Henry cried "Don't go Lily!" over and over again. It was so sad and so cute at the same time.

Just for historical purposes...that ever green tree Jordan planted was truly a seedling. I think it was provided by McDonalds. It probably was not even 4" tall. It struggled for a couple years until Robert developed his bog, right behind it. then suddenly, with so much water at it's base, it grew and it grew and it grew. i watched that thing grow the whole time Jordan was on his mission. And just look at it now. There's something to be said for allowing kids to plant a tree and be around to see it grow to it's own maturity...or to come back and see it matured...and marvel that the kids themselves have aged, and matured and perfected their own lives. thanks for coming. it was so incredible.
